Over 8 million people in this country and 125 million worldwide live with psoriasis, and every single one of you has your own unique story. Each August, we come together to honour and recognise each other during Psoriasis Action Month.
Everyone deserves to live their best and healthiest life, but if you’re living with psoriasis, that can be easier said than done. Thriving with psoriasis requires total wellness. Total wellness means addressing all aspects of health and happiness. From the variety of ways that psoriasis manifests, to the effects on mental health and the power of community, to the comorbidities that impact those with psoriasis, including cardiovascular disease and managing excess weight.
This Psoriasis Action Month, explore ways to optimize your health with the right tools, information, and support to improve your health and happiness.
The warning signs of psoriasis include:
- 1 Red skin patches
- 2 Dry Skin, leading to bleeding
- 3 thick nails
- 4 Stiffness
However, it is not only down to the physical warning signs. Psoriasis can also be caused by other factors such as:
- Family history
- Stress
- Smoking
- Obesity
- Vitamin deficiencies
Psoriasis can be caused by something as simple as a small cut or burn. It is so important to know the signs and what actions to take if you believe that you could have become infected.
Living with psoriasis is not easy. Not only is it uncomfortable, but it increases your risk of becoming diabetic. However, there are many ways you can lower this risk of gaining these including:
- Frequently exercising
- Having a good, balanced diet
- Maintaining a low alcohol consumption
There is always an increased risk, but these recommendations can lower that risk significantly. However, you still must remain vigilant of signs and symptoms.
